From November 16th through 23rd we will be hosting Rocío Inès Marsyas/RIMA Jewels with the collection of work PRIVILEGED INTIMACY. By setting up the work in a narrow gallery, RIMA designed an installation to recreate the delight and wonder of visiting an artist’s studio. The works on display consider the concept of intimacy as an honored closeness; to receive from a position of disarmed attention. The artist will present 24k gold repoussé masks, additional small metal sculptures, jewelry, and limited edition works on paper.
The exhibition, which is a part of NYC Jewelry Week, will be celebrated with three events: The opening party will take place on Saturday, November 16th from 4:00 to 7:00. On the following Wednesday, November 20th, Rocío will be on site between 12:30-2:30 with richly printed reproductions of her work for a writing and mailing exercise. And lastly, we will host the closing event on November 23rd between 4:00-7:00. Light refreshments will be provided.
Attendance is free and open to the public. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
Cheers,
John & Ruso
About RIMA Jewels
RIMA Jewels is the cumulative work and ongoing explorations of contemporary artist and studio jeweler Rocío Inès Marsyas. Rocío’s metalsmithing practice began nearly two decades ago as an apprentice to fourth-generation jeweler Israel Castillo who was then headquartered at a coastal port town in Central America.
Rocío Inès' collections, limited edition pieces, and custom works marry an array of interests including the early history of alchemical practice, Roman antiquities and the richly textured history of vanitas paintings and their memento mori jewelry counterparts. Each collection and individual piece is meticulously crafted in Rocío Inès' Manhattan studio with the delicacy, care, and discerning design considerations true to the artist's imprimatur. Her most recent explorations have been in expanding and subverting the memento mori genre through one-of-a-kind works in 24k gold which unearth ancient funerary gold traditions and sensibilities for use by the living.
