We are delighted to present to you the works of Brooklyn-based New Yorker painter, ceramicist, and tattoo artist Genna Howard with their collection Khachkar. From Genna: “Khachkar is a series of paintings started in 2020, initially as a way to process my own journey of learning about my Armenian heritage and its relationship to growing up in New York; and later related to the violence faced by the Armenian people in Artsakh. As a direct descendent of genocide survivors, I’ve strived to learn about my family’s history but have always had a deep disconnect from both not growing up in close proximity to that part of my family, and never learning the language. These paintings are a way to learn more about these images and stories, and an exercise in pushing the limits of my watercolor painting.”

Genna Howard is a painter, ceramicist, and tattooer born and raised in Manhattan, and currently living and working in Brooklyn, New York. They pursue drawing and painting as a way to process their emotional landscape and gather a sense of connection between their mortality, gender, culture, and sexuality. They utilize images of death, dissection, and natural history to create both aggressively stark and incredibly soft approaches to visual storytelling.
